Rama Defies Americans Over Porto Romano and Praises Balluku Over Roads Marred by Corruption

Edi Rama delivered a lengthy speech today defending Belinda Balluku.

Although he said he was not defending anyone, his entire address amounted to a forceful defense of his close associate. He said that Belinda Balluku has brought about epoch-making changes in infrastructure.

At the same time, Rama defended precisely those road segments that have collapsed amid corruption, leaving entire areas of the country isolated.

“These projects have been carried out over the past six years. Just like the Orikum–Dukat road or the Llogara tunnel, despite what is being said in the toilets of the ‘Çimbellinj.’ Korçë–Ersekë is another major added value. Qukës–Qafë Plloçë was a pit we inherited from that two-fingered fool. We bent over backwards with creditors to get their support. That one has now been completed as well. Maliq–Llozhan followed, along with the Road of Arber and Thumanë–Kashar. The Minister of Infrastructure had to deal with endless obstacles, like picking rice grain by grain, from expropriations and streams to car washes, permits, legalization claims and ongoing legalization processes, not to mention the devils and their sons who stirred up those protests and road blockages.

Meanwhile, he challenged the head of the American Chamber of Commerce over the Porto Romano port project.

Rama said the project will move forward.

“Porto Romano is one of the most complex processes. It is a strategic plan that has also stirred jealousy, something common among countries at certain stages of development. It is a highly sophisticated process, designed by the world’s most renowned and reputable studio … from the Netherlands.

Those who are fighting the project and leaving no stone unturned to block it, we know who they are. They have miscalculated, because the project will go ahead. I have no Plan B except for the EU. For everything else, I’m already at Plan C,” Rama said.
