In his remarks at a meeting of the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group, Democratic leader Sali Berisha stated that Prime Minister Edi Rama is placing himself above the law while diverting Albanians’ 33-year-long primary orientation toward Europe.

Excerpts from Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha’s speech:

Albania, more than any other country, must acknowledge that the integration process has been and remains vital.

We have had an extremely painful past.

Five hundred years under the Ottoman Empire.

Then under a Stalinist, Orwellian dictatorship.

In fact, if there has been any part of Europe’s territory that remained separated from Europe for centuries, it has been Albania.

We cannot deny this, which means it is a vital national interest to complete the integration process.

It must be completed on the basis of merit, merit grounded in the implementation of laws, the Constitution, and European standards and criteria for Albanian citizens.

Therefore, the regime of Edi Rama is entering a new stage, a new phase of actions against Albanians.

He is not only placing himself above the law, but is now also diverting Albanians’ main 33-year orientation toward Europe.

And he is doing this without consulting anyone.

Without consulting any institution, because he sees himself as the patron, as he is of the entire infrastructure of the narco-state.

This shows that we are living through a very difficult time, a critical moment for the country.

But we are more determined than ever for Albanian citizens to stand up for themselves and take their future into their own hands.

I call on every citizen to fulfill their duty to themselves, to their dignity and their individuality.

A civilized and responsible person can never accept being governed by a padrino who destroys justice, steals, and then claims that theft is not a crime.

It is a crime for citizens, but not for the statesman.
