‘Balluku’s Immunity’ / Berisha: The Socialist Party Is Not a Party but a Criminal Organization

During his remarks, Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha accused the Socialist Party of shielding Belinda Balluku from a request by the Special Anti-Corruption Structure (SPAK) to lift her parliamentary immunity, describing the ruling majority as a “criminal organization.”

Asked whether the Socialist Party would vote against lifting the minister’s immunity, Berisha said that, in his view, the party shares responsibility for the alleged affairs and thefts that, according to the opposition, have accompanied its time in government.

Berisha claimed that crime is the “substance” of the Socialist Party’s political functioning and that defending accused officials is proof of this. He argued that, more than a political party, it operates as a criminal organization.

His remarks:

Osman Stafa: Mr. Berisha, tomorrow the Socialist Party will convene its parliamentary group. Do you believe it will decide not to vote to lift Belinda Balluku’s immunity, as requested by SPAK?

Sali Berisha: It is a crime unit, Osman. That party has shown Albanians that it is the mother source of crime in Albania. It has crime as its substance, its soul, its mind. It is that party which has brought about this situation; it is their tolerance and complicity in theft and everything else. That party is nothing but a party of crime. There, Sara Mile and Arkend Balla are like flowers compared to the ministers and other officials implicated. So, you may use the word party, but more than anything else, the appropriate term is criminal organization.
