Prime Minister Edi Rama has crossed every boundary, resorting to personal attacks against judges seeking pay increases. The head of government lashed out at judges’ associations, responding with threats and insults to their public letter following the public debate over salary increases, while the Constitutional Court has taken the issue under review.
The prime minister claimed he has the legitimacy to attack judges because he is a party to the process currently under way at the Constitutional Court. He even referred to the families of judges who dared to publicly condemn his attacks.
Although he said he was satisfied that the Special Prosecution has not made demands for pay increases, during his live Facebook address the prime minister gave the first signal of a possible dissolution of SPAK, stating that it is a temporary structure.
Rama claimed to be concerned about the funds that would be taken from the state budget if judges’ salaries were increased, despite having previously shown no concern over €1.1 billion in alleged abuses of public tenders by his deputy, Belinda Balluku, whom the prime minister has personally invested in defending, including before the Constitutional Court.
