Rama Sells Out January 21 Protesters: 'They Were a Crowd That Got Out of Control'

“The protest went beyond control and beyond the crowd’s reaction, but at no point did the protesters breach the perimeter of the Prime Minister’s Office. No one attempted to cross the security line to enter the building,” Edi Rama said during the annual, highly criticized commemorative ceremony for the violent January 21 protest.

Rama claims that no one crossed the security perimeter, while ignoring the fact that the car that charged at the guards was brought from his own protesters and, according to his instructions, was meant to break through the government’s legally mandated security.

The current Prime Minister made no mention of his own responsibility or that of other Socialist Party leaders who organized the violent response. He also failed to note that most of the figures involved that day, later promoted to mayors or party MPs, advanced rapidly within the ranks of the ruling party.
