Foreign Minister Elisa Spiropali has taken it upon herself to mislead Albanians by even manipulating the text of a letter from U.S. President Donald Trump. While the U.S. President has invited the leaders of many countries to participate in the Peace Board, Minister of Exterior Elisa Spiropali appeared at a press conference telling Albanians that President Trump had given personal praise to Edi Rama.
When asked about the official U.S. position regarding drug cartels and money laundering in Albania, Spiropali stated that the government does not bear responsibility.

Government propaganda has crossed every limit, even pushing Minister of Exterior Elisa Spiropali to distort the letter sent by President Donald Trump to Albania. In the standard letter sent to leaders of various countries, President Trump emphasizes the invitation extended to the state. However, in the specific case of the Republic of Albania, according to Elisa Spiropali, President Trump personally praised Prime Minister Edi Rama, thereby taking it upon herself, on behalf of daily political interests, to distort even an official document of the U.S. President.
“This is a direct assessment of Rama’s leadership, as he was personally invited as a member of the Peace Board.”
Confronted with the official position of the U.S. Department of State regarding alarms over drug trafficking and Albanian cartels, positions that undermine the claim of personal praise for Edi Rama and the government, Elisa Spiropali had no direct response. Instead, she justified herself by declaring that the government cannot be held responsible for these issues.
She stated that neither Albanians as an ethnicity nor other countries where such phenomena appear bear responsibility, just as all countries have their own challenges when it comes to the fight against organized crime.
The suspension of immigration visas for 75 countries by the United States, including Albania, was seen by many countries as a message of responsibility and a signal that issues need to be addressed. However, for the Minister of Exterior Elisa Spiropali and the Albanian government, this is portrayed as an American problem unrelated to Albania, an attempt to ignore it purely for domestic political interests.
