Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha has called on the European Commission, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, OLAF, and Eurojust to investigate the alleged Rama–Mogherini affair related to the University of Tirana campus.
He said that, based on preliminary information, the scandal is 7–8 times larger than the Bruges case, accusing Prime Minister Edi Rama and Federica Mogherini of a secret deal that enabled the appropriation of land intended for students, to the detriment of the public interest and Albanian and European taxpayers.
Excerpts from a discussion with citizens:
Ejona Rusa: According to Rama, the University of Tirana campus will be moved to Durrës. This is happening at a time when Mogherini’s college has taken land belonging to the public University of Tirana, and when the campus promised for years here in Tirana has not been built. What is your position?
Sali Berisha: Our position is this: we call on the European Commission, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, OLAF, and Eurojust to investigate the Mogherini affair in Albania, which according to our preliminary data is at least 7–8 times larger than the Bruges case.
Federica Mogherini, acting as Edi Rama’s lobbyist, has a secret agreement with Rama regarding the campus of the College of Europe, an agreement that Edi Rama has kept secret and never submitted to Parliament, through which they seized land designated for the University of Tirana’s students. This land was duly registered and definitively allocated for the student campus, for which a project had been drawn up and funding allocated. Through a fully corrupt agreement, Edi Rama, together with Mogherini, took over this land, and it remains unclear what bill Albanian taxpayers and European taxpayers will ultimately face.
Therefore, I assure Edi Rama that without a full investigation by the EU’s competent prosecutorial institutions, no action of any kind will be accepted in this country, and that the shameful history of the Rama–Mogherini corruption must be clarified in court.
