Edi Rama secluded himself with his MPs at the Palace of Brigades today to discuss the new parliamentary session set to begin on Monday.

Rama arrived late to the meeting, while the media were barred from attending.

From this isolation, Rama spoke in a style reminiscent of Venezuela’s former strongman, Nicolás Maduro.

Rama said he had spent his life waiting for the opposition.

“With or without the opposition, reforms will continue,” Rama said, once again confirming that he intends to use parliament as a tool to suppress pluralism.

The meeting comes at a time when Rama is mired in a deep crisis following a request for the arrest of his deputy, Belinda Balluku.

The case file makes it clear that the architect of all the affairs is Edi Rama himself, while Balluku is portrayed as a compliant instrument of prime ministerial power.
