Today, Edi Rama will convene his parliamentary group to test and instruct them to defend Belinda Balluku following accusations by SPAK, which has sought her arrest over the massive abuses of public funds.

The meeting, expected to be lengthy, has also brought several new developments. For the first time, Edi Rama will not deliver a live address before his party’s MPs and the media.

Rama has therefore changed course: there will be no speech at all, staged or broadcast, during the group meeting. The session will be entirely with closed doors. It remains unclear whether MPs have been instructed to surrender their phones out of fear of internal surveillance or information leaks to the media. This has yet to be verified.

However, the grave situation facing the country, revelations of successive thefts of the state budget by officials of the ruling “Renaissance,” the floods, and the exposure of colossal abuses involving the budget and investments intended to improve flood management are expected to be part of the agenda at this meeting.
