In an interview on Çim Peka Live on Syri TV, Arben Ahmetaj lays out what he describes as the scandalous affair behind the state-owned company KAYO.
Ahmetaj says there is a complete capture of the state, a threat to the defense industry, and a diversion of state budget funds. He also speaks about Roni Yeffet, who was a partner in Air Albania. The same Roni Yeffet, he says, whom the head of the organization attempted to grant land and Albania’s embassy in New York.
Ahmetaj adds that this has paved the way for cooperation with Elbit Systems, an Israeli company under investigation by NATO and Belgian authorities for corruption in military contracts.
Excerpts from the interview
The state loses its right of veto. The Supreme State Audit can no longer audit any such subsidiary. Public assets are turned into private capital without any privatization procedure. And private companies under the KAYO umbrella receive military contracts without tenders.
The core issue is that the same person who was a partner in Air Albania, Roni Yeffet, is the same individual whom the head of the organization wanted to grant land and our embassy in New York. The same person to whom an attempt was made to assign public debt, which I refused, is now made the main private partner in KAYO. This is a corrupt affair.
It takes a perverse mind: when it speaks of a pure heart and a good mind, it is in fact a dark heart and a perverse mind that act.
Even though he refers to himself, having now lost touch with reality, that is beside the point. What we have is a complete capture of the state, a threat to the defense industry, and a diversion of state budget funds. Beyond that, as I said, this project operates entirely outside the rules: it is a financial scheme that falls completely outside public procurement rules and public finance audit regulations. Moreover, through it, a path has been opened for cooperation with Elbit Systems, an Israeli company under investigation by NATO and Belgian authorities for corruption in military contracts. Let journalists investigate it, I am neither ANSA nor 007. As Altin (Dumani) says, I am under international pursuit.
Do you understand? He goes to parliament and shouts at the opposition, shouts at the opposition members.
In Albania, this company is involved in a project financed with public funds, such as the Aviation Academy in Vlora. The Aviation Academy in Vlora.
An Aviation Academy in Vlora without aviation, with a single helicopter, do you understand?
The issue is about the land and the asset, because as for aviation, he has a private aircraft. KAYO provides public infrastructure, funds, and state guarantees, while Elbit takes control over the technology and the profit. Let journalists investigate it.
