The Democratic Party (DP), together with the opposition as a whole, has called for a meeting of the Mandates Council on Tuesday, December 30, at 11:00 a.m.
The request by opposition lawmakers concerns the consideration of a request from SPAK (the Special Anti-Corruption Structure), which seeks to obtain parliamentary authorization to lift the mandate of MP Belinda Balluku. Balluku also serves as the government’s second-in-command and heads the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy.
“Convening the Council at the request of half of its members is mandatory under the Rules of Procedure,” the DP said in its letter addressed to Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi.
“The Speaker of Parliament is obliged to announce the agenda. Therefore, fulfill your legal duty and do not obstruct justice,” the letter from Democratic members of the Mandates Council to Parliament adds.
Belinda Balluku was reinstated to her position by the Constitutional Court after being suspended by the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) in connection with the Llogara Tunnel case and contracts related to sections of the Great Ring Road.
