Albania's opposition leader lashed out during a press conference over the worsening flood situation across the country.

‘The narco-government is asleep!’ the Democratic Party chief declared.

‘The DP will support any initiative to fully compensate all damages,’ he added.

Berisha accused the government of abandoning citizens in the middle of a natural disaster.

‘The narco-government is asleep. Ramaduro is traveling around for his own personal interests,’ he said, using his trademark nickname for Prime Minister Rama.

He strongly condemned what he called the government's irresponsible stance toward the crisis.

According to Berisha, the DP and its parliamentary group will launch every necessary initiative to ensure urgent assistance and full compensation for all flood-related damages, damages which, he argued, could have been avoided entirely had the country's drainage and irrigation infrastructure been properly maintained.

Berisha urged Albanians to read a recent post by professor Artan Fuga, who wrote upon returning from Gjakova. The respected academic, he said, described a completely different reality:

A country where, despite the rainfall, farmland was not flooded.

A country where agricultural machinery could be seen working everywhere.

A country where fuel prices were nowhere near Albania's.

A country where water channels functioned.

‘That country is Kosovo, a state only two decades old,’ Berisha said. ‘Meanwhile Albania, heading into its 113th year of independence, is being catastrophically ruined by the narco-state.’

‘These facts speak to a nation in collapse,’ he concluded.
