GJKKO imposes two security measures on Belinda Balluku: suspension from duty and a travel ban

The Special Court has imposed two security measures on Belinda Balluku: suspension from her duties and functions as deputy prime minister and minister, and a ban on leaving the country.

Balluku was formally charged by the Special Prosecution Office about three weeks ago in connection with the Llogara Tunnel affair.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, has been suspended from her roles as deputy prime minister and minister after prosecutor Dritan Prençi requested that the Special Court impose security measures against the senior official.

The decision was issued by Judge Erion Çela at the prosecutor’s request, on charges of violating equality in public tenders.

Sources say the accusations against Deputy Prime Minister Balluku regarding violations of tender equality are linked to the Llogara Tunnel case and Lot 4 of the Great Ring Road project in Tirana.

It is worth noting that just a day earlier, Belinda Balluku took part in the parliamentary session presenting the 2026 draft budget. She stated that she has full trust in the justice system and would never resort to insulting judges or prosecutors.

“I will never comment on matters under investigation, because they have their own path — a path I will follow with full discretion until the truth fully emerges, whatever it may be.

Like my colleagues in the Socialist Party, I support the justice reform and its results, even when we are personally affected. Contrary to what is said or thought, the Socialist Party is a serious political organization — the only one in Albania — where everyone’s voice is heard and carries weight. That reform has had the support of every socialist. Therefore, out of full respect for its mission, I have no further comment,” Balluku told Parliament.
