Rama Admits in Brussels He Has Turned the Country "Back to Communism"; Kos: The Real Success Is Closing the Chapters

Edi Rama acknowledged in Brussels that Albania has "returned to communism."

During an unusual speech at a press conference, Rama said Albania today has a majority similar to that of the communist era.

"We have a majority like in communist times. It was the same in the Ottoman Empire, we've always been loyal to empires. This is the first empire we actually want to belong to. This majority is different, not just in numbers but in essence. We were fully obedient to the Ottomans and the Soviets, but that was because of coercion, this one is by choice. That's why Maria understood why Albania can't escape. Better to take us in, because if not, we will chase them to the end. If they want to get rid of us, they have to take us with them," Rama said.

Meanwhile, EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos said that while opening accession chapters is an achievement, the real success lies in closing them.

"This is the result of Albanian citizens who want change and support these reforms. Albania is the best example of the transformative power of enlargement. When you deliver results, you move forward. You are an inspiration for the Western Balkans. Opening all negotiating clusters is a success, but closing them is the real prize. The real measure of success is how quickly you adopt and implement the legislation," Kos emphasized.
