Edi Rama is expected to meet Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to organize the first intergovernmental summit between the two countries.

However, the move has sparked harsh reactions in Italy.

Italian journalist Nello Trocchia has accused Meloni of meeting with the leader of a narco-state to whom she has given Italian taxpayers' money.

In an editorial for the newspaper Domani, Trocchia noted that Meloni has remained silent about the Aruba meeting, where leaders of criminal cartels allegedly met with representatives of Edi Rama's government.

The journalist emphasized that the Aruba meeting was confirmed by the DIA (the Italian Anti-Mafia Directorate).

"An even more serious issue, considering what Domani revealed regarding a meeting confirmed by the DIA between a criminal cartel and unidentified representatives of Rama's government. It was 2019. An event about which Rama has chosen silence, one that triggered a political and media storm in Albania but was buried in Italy.

The Italian Prime Minister speaks grandly against the mafia, yet she chooses international counterparts whose policies on money laundering, corruption, and infiltration are considered 'not advanced,' as Nicola Gratteri once said," wrote the well-known journalist.
