The chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, during his speech at the parliamentary group meeting, strongly condemned the Albanian government’s stance regarding the agreement proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Gaza.
Berisha stated that this agreement has been welcomed by almost the entire world, including Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and China’s Foreign Minister, while the silence of the Albanian government resembles that of Iran and North Korea.
“Only North Korea, Iran, and Ramaduro have not welcomed Trump’s agreement. I strongly condemn this attitude because it mirrors the behavior of the regimes in Tehran and Pyongyang,” declared Berisha. He accused Prime Minister Edi Rama and his staff of taking an absurd and unacceptable position toward Western allies.
According to Berisha, as a NATO member and a country with traditionally friendly relations with Israel, Albania should have reacted differently. He recalled that during his time in government, Albania maintained balanced relations with both Israel and Palestine, mentioning his meetings with Shimon Peres and Yasser Arafat.
Berisha added that “the phone calls from Tirana linked to Tehran and Pyongyang will come to light in the coming weeks,” warning that the government’s silence in this case reveals condemnable political ties. “The Albanian narco-state remains silent as a blade of grass over an agreement that even Trump’s opponents in the U.S. have welcomed,” he concluded.
FULL SPEECH:
But what stands out is an agreement that has been welcomed by almost the entire world, even Vučić welcomed it, as did the Chinese Foreign Minister, though with his own objections.
This agreement has been passed over in total silence by Kim Jong Un of North Korea, the Ayatollahs’ Iran, and Ramaduro’s Tirana.
When former Foreign Minister Tritan Shehu rightly stood up in Parliament to express support, as, indeed, the Speaker of Parliament should have done, the spokesman of Edi Rama, Balla, replied: “Wait, the president hasn’t gone to Jerusalem yet.”
Now, the president has made his epic trip, and they remain silent, in an act that is both highly significant and utterly absurd.
Not even the “Dove” says a word, not even the “Haram” of the Presidency writes a line, and Edi Rama, of course, says nothing.
This reveals a clear stance, identical to that of Tehran and Pyongyang.
Meanwhile, Albania is a NATO member, a country with strong friendly ties to Israel, but also genuine relations with the State of Palestine. They may have only recently recognized it formally, but we had done so long before, we never interrupted recognition of the Palestinian state, and accredited ambassadors have always been present here.
During the country’s opening years, I received both Shimon Peres and Yasser Arafat in Tirana.
We have a special relationship with the Jewish people, an extraordinary legacy left to us by our virtuous forebears during World War II, when others did not act, but Albanians did.
That legacy, alongside our religious tolerance, is among the brightest we possess.
At the same time, we have our sympathies and friendships with the Arab world in general, and with the Palestinian people in particular. Our traditional ties with these nations, and the question of what happened with Tirana’s “phone line,” why it rang toward Tehran and Pyongyang, will become clear in the coming weeks. But this stance is condemnable.
I firmly and unequivocally condemn the position they have taken on an agreement that was welcomed even by those whom Donald Trump himself has labeled—and who have been proven to be—his opponents in the United States.
Meanwhile, Albania remains silent… the Albanian narco-state stays as silent as a blade of grass.
