Berisha Denounces Scandal: Rama Bought Votes UsingPayments for People with Disabilities

Opposition leader Sali Berisha has denounced an electoralscandal involving Edi Rama, accusing him of using paymentsintended for people with disabilities and their caregivers as a tool to buy votes during the election campaign.

According to Berisha, Rama distributed €40 to around 200,000 individuals, exploiting a decision taken in December but implemented precisely during the campaign period, at a time when such action could clearly be considered a violation of the law.

Berisha emphasized that this is yet another example of the extreme cynicism and heartlessness of the current government, which, despite the difficult economic conditions faced by the majority of Albanians, has chosen to manipulate the vote ratherthan invest in improving living standards and pensions.

Excerpt from his statement:

"But why did I stop at this?

Because Edi Rama’s electoral crime knows no bounds.

He used payments for people with disabilities at the peak of the election campaign to buy votes.

He distributed €40 (4000 lek) to 164,000 people with disabilitiesand to thousands upon thousands of their caregivers, totalingaround 200,000 individuals.

It was a decision made in December, but implemented preciselywhen it should not have been during the election campaign.

I brought these examples to illustrate the extreme cynicism andheartlessness of the narco-government, which, even as it leavespeople in miserable conditions, just look, pensions in Albaniaare 60% lower than in the country with the lowest pension in Europe.

Instead of following a policy of pension increases or establishing a minimum living standard, they follow the practiceof vote-buying handouts, both for pensioners and for 200,000 people with disabilities and their caregivers.

I strongly condemn this disgraceful electoral farce once again and declare that the Democratic Party will never recognize or accept it.

We will do everything necessary to ensure that Albanians vote as free citizens."
