The chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, stated during a press conference that Igli Hasani is under the control of Prime Minister Edi Rama in the same way as Altin Dumani.
He called on the media to inform the Albanian public about the unprecedented document published today.
Excerpts from the DP leader’s speech:
This is another peak moment.
“Regarding the observation that the media environment lacks independent reporting and that the majority of media outlets are perceived as aligned with the ruling party, we must recall the statement made by the head of the international election observation mission during the post-election conference, where he clarified that there appeared to be no self-censorship, as was reported in the preliminary conclusions.”
Do you hear that? Journalists are not practicing self-censorship.
Turn on the government-run TV stations, in the worst year for tourism, when beaches are empty, and for 15 minutes straight they shamelessly broadcast fake news, abusively and criminally misleading citizens. All four channels, acting the same.
And now they want to convince us this is "independent" media.
One of the most shocking parts that shows Albania is under an autocratic dictatorship lies in the fact that, according to this report, 90 to 95 percent of media is controlled by the government.
The biggest victims of media owners are the journalists who try to speak the truth.
And now this man says the report is inaccurate. It's shameful.
“Given these considerations, this shame of his, these public lies, we call on the mission and ODIHR to provide a more balanced and evidence-based assessment.”
Do you understand what that means? He’s implying that their current assessments lack evidence, when in reality, the evidence supports conclusions five times darker than what’s written.
“It is important,” he says, “that the preliminary findings do not cast doubt on the electoral process, which in general, as recognized by the report, was conducted professionally.”
The most “professional” elections were held in dictatorships. In a dictatorship, the vote administrators were flawless in managing the farce.
He understands this, but he’s in the position of a man who’s been captured. Someone terribly dependent on Edi Rama, just like Altin Troplini, who claims there’s “no evidence.”
I strongly condemn this letter as an authoritarian, condemnable, and unacceptable attempt to directly interfere with and discredit, to pressure and devalue, the preliminary report of the OSCE/ODIHR.
I call on the media to inform the Albanian people about this unprecedented document in 32 years of European history.
