Albania’s Central Electoral Commission (KQZ) has given the mandate of the Mayor of Himara to the opposition candidate Fredi Beleri who won the race against incumbent Jorgo Goro on the May 14 elections. As of today, Beleri is officially the new Mayor of Himara, a town at the coast of the Ionian Sea.

In order to sit in his new office at the municipality, Beleri must overcome another last obstacle that being sworn in the Municipal Council.

That procedural aspect can be a stalemate for Beleri who is currently in detention in jail after being arrested only two days before the elections at Premier Edi Rama’s order. It remains to be seen if they will find a way out for the new Mayor to take his oath and start his job.
