Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha called again for public debates between the candidates for the mayoral elections of May 14. The opposition candidates have invited their Socialist opponents in live debates on television but their calls have remained without answers.

“I believe the transparency and accountability before the citizens asks for debates on every level, between the mayoral candidates as well as the candidates running for the municipal councils”, Berisha said today.

“An electoral campaign without debates is an actual blackout for the Albanian citizens that are condemned to listen to deceiving speeches from the Socialists and do not have the possibility to hold them accountable”.

“The refusal of debates is based on the big economic crimes committed by Edi Rama and his representatives at the local power. It is based on the theft of billions of Euros through tenders that in 90% are in violation of the country’s laws. The refusal of TV debates is based on the transfer of wealth and funds to the cronies and families of Edi Rama and of all the mayors in the entire country”.

Berisha repeated that the opposition candidates “are ready at any time of day and night to face off with their Socialist rivals”.
