Former Croatian President Stipe Mesić met former Albanian President Sali Berisha in Tirana today and after the meeting spoke to the media reporters about his concern for Berisha’s health following the physical attack against him on December 6. Berisha was punched in the face from a person, 31, who turned out to be a police informant.

Mr. Mesić said it was a life attempt and democracy, Albanians and Europe need Berisha.

“I visited Albania and during my days here I heard about the attempt, for the attack that took place and it worried me very much”, said Mesić.

“I was worried and surprised, because I know Dr. Sali Berisha is the father of democracy in Albania and beyong. I have been President of the Presidency of Yugoslavia and President of Croatia and it was one thing that united me with Berisha from day one and that thing was democracy”.

“I do not have much information for the moment, I won’t say many things, but this was an attempt on Doctor’s life”.

“All Albanians, the region and EU need Sali Berisha. I send him my heartfelt wishes for health and for remaining a part of politics, working for democracy”.
