Albanian Premier Edi Rama denied reports December 6 would be a day off in the Albanian capital Tirana despite the fact it was spread by government’s media. On Wednesday, newspapers and outlets close to the government announced December 6 would be a day off for the administration and schools in Tirana due to the security measures for the EU-Western Balkans Summit that will take place in the Albanian capital.

The news was not denied until a few days later, when Rama said it was fake news. He never said why the news was not denied immediately, but as usually he attacked the media.

However, it was Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha who explained why Rama decided to cancel his first decision.

The reason is the opposition’s protest planned for the same day of the Summit. Berisha said Rama feared the day off only would increase the attendance in the rally.

Meanwhile, the opposition has announced it will not back off from its plan to rally in Tirana’s main boulevard, outside the prime ministry, despite the State Police’s refusal to allow the gathering there.
