Freedom Party Chairman Ilir Meta cleared all doubts whether he would be present at the opposition rally outside the prime ministry on December 6. Meta said he will be there on the day of the summit of EU with the Western Balkans leaders and called on the citizens to join the protest with the chant of the early 1990s “We want Albania like the rest of Europe”.

“For us Albanians, November is the month of independence, liberation, and freedom. December, for all the honest Albanians, patriots and freedom-lovers, is the month of democracy and Europe”, said the former President of the Republic. “There’s no doubt, we all will be there on December 6 to chant once more that we will make Albania like the rest of Europe, a free country that will end the capture of state and the installation of mafia in power. We are very grateful to the European Union that – despite the lack of the politic will from our current government that has done everything to undermine the opening of the negotiations – prioritized the acceleration of the integration of the Western Balkans”.

Meta also commented the refusal of the State Police and Municipal Police to allow the rally because it is within the security perimeter that ensures a normal development of the Summit.

“Security in Albania is threatened by the mafia and power, never by the free citizens. This is not a rally against the Mayor, because he’ll receive a one-way ticket on May 14 (2023), but it is a pro-European rally where Albania aims to send a message of gratitude for EU’s important geopolitical decision to push Albania and other countries forward in the integration path”, said Meta.
