Albanian President Ilir Meta commemorated today July 2, 1990, when Albanian citizens rushed towards and entered the foreign embassies in Tirana in efforts to escape from the last communist country in Europe.

The President showed his gratitude to all those Albanians "who, in the name of freedom, democracy, and for Albania like the rest of Europe, heroically broke the isolation of the dictatorship on July 2, 1990 to give the country a new and irreversible direction".

“Freedom is built on courage”, Meta wrote on his Facebook page, emphasizing that “time to build Europe in Albania is now”.
