Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Tirana today. The Turkish President will arrive in Tirana’s International Airport Mother Theresa around 9:30, where he will be received by Albanian Premier Edi Rama and both will immediately travel to Laç to inaugurate the new apartment block that was built with funds from the Turkish government. A square in the city of Laç will take the name Erdogan.

Rama and Erdogan will then go to Tirana at 2 pm for a joint press conference, after which the Turkisht President will visit the historic Mosque of Ethem Bey which is also being reconstructed with Turkish funds.

Erdogan will address the Albanian Parliament at 5pm, then will leave the country.

The traffic in all main roads in the Albanian capital Tirana has been blocked by police as a safety measure for the visit of Erdogan.

Meanwhile, Erdogan’s visit coincides with the 554th anniversary of death of Albanian National Hero Gjergj Kastrioti Scanderbeg, who fought against the Ottoman army and led the Albanian resistance for 25 years, and many in Albania have seen the day of Erdogan’s visit as inappropriate.
