Former Interior Minister and member of the Democratic Party executive Flamur Noka told media reporters today the Democratic Party National Convention will gather despite Chairman Lulzim Basha’s refusal to convoke it. Noka has taken openly the side of former Chairman Sali Berisha against the incumbent Basha, after the latter decided to expel Berisha from the Democrat parliamentary group.

The party base has called for a referendum or an extraordinary convention to decide on Berisha’s expulsion, but Basha rejected the calls, saying no convention that will scrutinize US government’s decision will take place.

“The Convention will gather not to review decisions of the United States, it will gather against Basha, the Democratic Party chairman that now is in minority, illegitimate and does not represent the majority of the Democratic Party”, Noka said. “Everything is in process, no one in the Republic of Albania can stop the will of the Democratic Party members”.
