Former Albanian Premier Sali Berisha promised he will be present in the parliament on Friday, in the first session of the new legislature. He rejected calls and suggestions to relinquish the MP mandate following the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s decision to ban him and his family from entering the United States on grounds of significant corruption. Berisha, who has denied any wrongdoings, has filed a lawsuit against Blinken in the Correctional Court in Paris.

“I won’t hide behind a mandate”, Berisha said in an exclusive interview with Erla Mëhilli on EuroNews Albania.

He added the sovereignty of the country has been expressed through the citizens’ votes and in no way would he “kick Albania’s sovereignty”.

Berisha said he will fight alone his legal battle versus Blinken, without drawing the Democratic Party in it.

“I wage battle for the Democratic Party; the Democratic Party does need to wage battle for me. I have asked that no one should be involved in this battle. The Democratic Party will not and should not engage itself in this campaign”, the former Democrat chairman said.

Jemi me ju.
