Albania’s Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) started today verification over the alleged misuse of citizens’ personal data from the governmental online platform e-Albania. The verification started after a report filed by the Democratic Party on Sunday.

SPAK said its investigators will find out whether the database has been used for electoral advantages by the ruling Socialist Party. SPAK will acquire a of e-Albania’s data to verify if they are the same as the ones published.

The Democratic Party accused Premier Edi Rama’s Socialist Party of using the citizens’ data that are deposited on the portal e-Albania for their electoral benefits.

Former Democrat Enkel Alibeaj said in a communication with the media this is a serious offense and violation of citizens’ personal privacy.

Vice chairman of the Socialist Party Taulant Balla said this merely traditional data from the electoral lists, however he could not explain possessing the voters’ phone numbers, job places, and accurate addresses.
