Albanian President Ilir Meta urged the Special Prosecution against Organized Crime and Corruption (SPAK) to start immediately the investigation over the economic damage caused to the country from the arbitration trial with the Italian entrepreneur Francesco Becchetti.

President Meta stressed that the scandal takes gigantic proportions, considering that the because the State Advocacy has lied to him claiming that it has not lost the lawsuit with the company in question, and has even hidden information.

“I have long warned the Government still in office to give up arrogance and withdraw from any abusive decision outside the legal proceedings against foreign investors in our country.

Only for the personal whims and caprices of the Prime Minister, who also hates the freedom of the media, Albania is now obliged to pay 110 million EUR.

In these circumstances, I call on the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution (SPAK) to urgently launch criminal investigations for this great economic damage caused to the state and which will unfortunately be paid with the money of all Albanian taxpayers.

It is time for Justice to bring to legal justice all the causers of this economic damage, and to prevent in the future greater damage to the State Budget and Albanian taxpayers, due to abuse of office and abuse of power of officials high”, the President said.
