There were no surprises in the Albanian parliament today where – as anticipated by Premier Edi Rama – the Socialist majority passed for the second time, with 96 votes, the changes to the Electoral Code, ignoring President Ilir Meta’s decree for a revision of the amendments.
With the new vote, the amended Electoral Code will come into force immediately without the suggestions made by the President and the opposition.
EU officials suggested Rama’s Socialist Party should wait for Venice Commission’s opinion on the matter, but Rama rejected suggestions saying there is no more time to waste.
