Albanian President Ilir Meta welcomed the official proposal of the opposition for the opening 100% of the electoral lists for the April 25 general elections.

“The opposition is determined to reach a consensus, unlike the Renaissance (the Socialist majority) that insists on conflicts, elections deformation, and the elimination of the Political Council as a consensual decision-maker instrument”, Meta wrote.

“The draft presented by the opposition suggests the opening of lists 100% and full respecting of gender equality, unlike the Renaissance’s deception and closure 100% of the lists.

The draft of the opposition respects the consensus reached in the June 5 agreement. The draft of the opposition asks for the ODIHR opinion on the disputed issues, as a neutral party and official observer of the elections”.

“The opposition has taken every step that brings forward the process of Albania’s European integration, where the electoral reform, its implementation, and the investigation of the electoral crimes are the key conditions that define the opening of the membership negotiations. Any unilateral step that overthrows the Jun 5 agreement would be an intolerable and unforgivable attempt and provocation against the democratic and constitutional order, and Albania’s European future. It’s time for reflection!”
