Former Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis said the sea delimitation issue between Albania and Greece must be solved by a decision of the International Court.

Speaking in an event hosted by The Economist in the Greek capital Athens, Bakoyannis said the agreement of 2009 was abandoned after the intervention of Turkey and then-Prime Minister Erdogan in person.

“We know Turkey was totally against the agreement”, Bakoyannis.

Albanian Premier Edi Rama intervened objecting her declaration.

“The Albanian Constitutional Court ruled against the agreement in 2009. At that time I had never spoken to President Erdogan, we had no relations because we were in the opposition and decided to take the case to the court, because there were debates and I did not want them to become political”, Rama said.

“The idea that I have heard from high authorities that the agreement was cancelled on the account of Turkey’s intervention is absolutely untrue. I can say that in no meeting with him I have heard him say Turkey is interested in this issue”.
