Albanian President Ilir Meta commented the latest report of the US Department of Stat that declares Albania as the most corrupt country in the Western Balkans, with a suffocating climate for making business. Meta – who described the report as “shocking” – appealed to the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution (SPAK) to investigate all the procedures of proposing and reviewing the law packages that he has returned to be reviewed by the Parliament.

"Albania is perceived in the US Department of State's annual report as the country with the highest level of corruption in the Western Balkans, where the stifling business climate has been exacerbated by arbitrary decisions and non-transparent and clientelistic fiscal policies that undermine competition and free enterprise", Meta said.

The President recalled that the Parliament has rejected many decrees for the return of laws that are deemed as anti-constitutional and threaten the national and public interests, as well as the state’s finances, passing special packages with favoring effect for a certain group of individuals.

“The lawmaking process has been misused openly in the most flagrant way. Now they are not infringing laws, but they are rather making special laws to grant favors”, said the President, appealing to the people to take its fate in its own hands.
