The Democratic Party (PD) declared today that “Premier Edi Rama’s political project to co-govern with the structured crime has transformed Albania into a haven of laundering dirty money generated from illegal traffics and corruption at every level of the governance”.

Former Democrat MP Enkelejd Alibeaj said Albania’s image is that of a country “where one can easily invest and clean the money from the criminal actitivity”.

“This is not merely a conclusion of PD, but it is a repeated conclusion of the US Department of State”, Alibeaj added.

“For the fourth consecutive year, the official reports from Washington DC present Albania as ‘a main country for money laundering’ because of corruption, growing organized crime and a weak rule of law”.

Alibeaj said €1.6 billion have been invested in the construction industry in Tirana during the last three years only.
