Albanian President Ilir Meta condemned the decision of the parliament in favor of unilateral modifications to the Constitution.
“Today’s act of unilateral changes and with unjustified haste to the Constitution by the partially-legitimate parliament is anti-constitutional and unacceptable”, Meta declared.
“The violent change to the Constitution erased the consensual agreements of January 14 and June 5 that enabled an all-inclusive process and outcome, blowing off again the understanding among parties, social peace in the country, and Albania’s process of European integration”.
“No kidnapping gang will escape the deserved response from the strength of the united citizens against this coup d’état. The President of the Republic, as always, will be performing his duty as a guardian of the Constitution, of the unalterable rights, and of the citizens’ will to take their fates into their hands. Edi Rama challenged the Albanian people to a historical confrontation today. He bragged he is the son of a communist that had poets hanged in the middle of Kukës for the free speech.
We, Albanians, will respond him Albanianly till the end!”
