The Democratic Party (PD) has raised questions over the impunity of Tirana’s Mayor Erion Veliaj who violates all the measures imposed by the government to stop the spread of coronavirus, with the number of new cases groing.

Former Democrat deputy Albana Vokshi reacted after Veliaj’s popularity campaign in the social networks, with pictures and videos, with intention to show his huge popularity. It all occurs in a time when Premier Edi Rama called for restrictions and even threatened for a new lockdown and punishing the participants in protest rallies.  Vokshi spoke o double standards from Rama.

“A few days ago, Edi Rama threatened the citizens with the return of the lockdown, fines and shutdown for businesses unless they complied with the anti-Covid measures. But the law does not apply to Erion Veliaj, leaving Rama’s political police totally naked”.

“Erion Veliaj has published tens of pictures of his gathering with children. There’s a lot of propaganda there, but no social and physical distancing, no anti-Covid measure that Rama speaks of has been respected”.

“The Prime Minister must tell Albanians why he has students, citizens, and opposition arrested and fined, restricting them with the excuse of coronavirus, whereas Erion Veliaj, who abuses with children, is unpunishable. Edi Rama must either explain why the law has no effect on Erion Veliaj or shut ip and stop threatening with a new lockdown and fines on the citizens”.
