The Democratic Party of Albania (PD) has appealed  to the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution (SPAK) to investigate Tirana’s Mayor Erion Veliaj over links with ‘Ndrangheta and laundering money for the infamous Calabrese mafia.

"The crime money laundry in Tirana must be investigated by the Albanian justice. SPAK cannot pretend  like it’s not listening or watching”, PD Spokeswoman Ina Zhupa said today.

Zhupa was referring to the company of the Italian national Flavio Tosi, a crony of Premier Edi Rama and Mayor Veliaj. Tosi, whose firm is a partner in the City of Tirana, has been charged for laundering ‘Ndrgheta’s money.

"Four million Euros of the Albanian citizens were given to "Eco Tirana" for doing no job at all”, Zhupa said. “The municipality of Tirana may have been used to launder the dirty money of one of most dangerous Italian Mafioso clans, through the company created by Veliaj,

Eco Tiarana. The Italian partners of the company, cronies of Erion Veliaj and Edi Rama, today have been accused of laundering the Italian mafia money. They have used for that intention the public company of cleaning in Verona, Amia, which is a partner with Eco Tirana’s 49% of shares”.

“Edi Rama and Erion Veliaj must be investigated by SPAK over possible links to the Mafioso affair of recycling and money laundering through the public company EcoTirana”, said the PD spokeswoman.
