Albanian President Ilir Meta warned the parliamentary majority today he will not tolerate to be pressured or blackmailed over the new candidature for the State Supreme Audit (KLSH).

Meta wrote to the parliament Speaker Gramoz Ruçi on Thursday about pressures from the majority to appoint the vice chairman of KLSH, rejecting three candidatures proposed by him. Today he repeated his warnings in the weekly press conference, where he also spoke for the electoral reform.

“I have not been and do not see it as reasonable to be a part of the discussions. I wish and appeal again for consensus, because, firstly, it is an obligation towards the Albanian citizenry to have guarantees for the free vote; secondly, it is an obligation to the integration process and June 8 is an important date”, Meta said for the efforts to conclude the electoral reform.

“There is progress apparently and it has stuck in some aspects or elements which should not harm the consensus. In my knowledge, the opposition has not put a transitional government as a condition and that makes reaching a consensus possible. However, that does not mean that the election test is passed because we need to see how the next elections in Albania will be conducted”, Meta said.
