Albanian Premier Edi Rama’s long-time secret dream finally has become reality with the demolition of Albania’s National Theater in Tirana, despite strong objections from the community of art, citizenry, the President of the Republic and appeals from international organizations.
Fearing a strong reactions of the citizens, the demolition of the historic building took place at 4:00 am on Sunday, when a total curfew is imposed by the government in efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
Representatives of the opposition reached at the place, but it was too late, as the building had been pulled down.
The National Theater was considered as the last fortress of resistance that Edi Rama’s regime had not managed to tear down for years.
