Albanian President Ilir Meta sent a message to President of the European Council Charles Michel today on the occasion of the Day of Europe.

“I would like to extend my wholehearted wishes to you, and to all European citizens on this Europe Day! These past months and weeks have been a genuine showcase of European solidarity, support and encouragement towards Albania”, Meta wrote.

“My fellow citizens and I are grateful for the immediate assistance after last November’s earthquake, for the integrated response to the pandemic as well as for the encouraging Council decision to open accession negotiations with Albania.

I am also encouraged by the Zagreb Summit conclusions, reiterating the European perspective of our region and the necessity to build an irreversible accession process upon shared European values”.

The Albanian President assured Michel he will continue to make “every effort favoring a genuine implementation of reforms, most notably in view of building a functioning democracy and prevailing rule of law, fully in line with constitutional and legal provisions as well as best European standards”.
