Albanian President Ilir Meta wrote today the International Workers Day has found Albania with the lowest level of wages in the region and Europe, according to international financial institutions.

“The serious economic state, worsened by the difficult situations we are living, does not give hope that things will change for better in the near future”, Meta wrote. “The employees in the private sector continue to express their dissatisfaction over the lack of regular job contracts, bad working conditions, lack of their rights, minimal wages and lack of payment of the social contributions”.

The Albanian President added that “good cooperation is needed in this situation to support the small businesses and entrepreneurs through a concrete and tangible strategy for reopening the economy irreversibly”.

“This situation demands urgent reflections and concrete measures so that May 1 will not be underlined as an ordinary day off work but as a celebration for the workers’ accomplishments”.

Meta sent special thanks to the doctors and nurses that are in the frontline of fight against the coronavirus, protecting the health of every citizen.
