The ruling Socialist Party (PS) repeated after a meeting of the party executive today that the new general election will be held as planned in June 2021. Head of the Socialist parliamentary group and party’s vice chairman Taulant Balla rejected any suggestion the majority will agree to hold earlier election.

“In the Party’s Congress we will approve an agenda for the political activity. There will be some sort of change and the process will end in June 30, 2021, when the parliamentary election will be held. I’ll be left in peace for this kind of question at least for a few months”, Balla said.

He appealed to Albanian President Ilir Meta to “wake up” and decree the election date for the municipalities that have been left without mayors, after they were dismissed in accordance with the Law on Decriminalization.

“The President has not been performing his constitutional duties. He has been announced by the relevant local institutions, like the counties prefects, for the vacancies. It is the President the one that must wake up and respect the Constitution”, Balla said.
