Albanian Premier Edi Rama said Albania is not “particularly” in danger by a possible Iranian retaliation after the verbal attack of the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei following the US air strike that killed Iranian general Qassem Soleimani.

The Iranian Supreme Leader spoke about “a small and very treacherous European country and a number of Iranian mercenaries and traitors, they got together with some foreigners and tried to conspire against the Islamic republic”, without naming Albania but the reference seems clear, considering NATO member Albania’s ties with the United States and the country giving refuge to some 3000 MEK refugees.

“We know pretty well we took chances by being involved in the humanitarian operation of defending the lives threatened with death by Tehran’s dictatorial regime”, Rama said.

“We are very proud that in this respect the Albanian politics has one stance and has made this step with unified conviction, in the function of the obligations of the strategic alliance with the United States”.
