The lawyers of the Turkish teacher Harun Çelik, deported from Albania in the first day of 2020, have requested from the Albanian Minister of the Interior Sandër Lleshi details on the proceedings for the deportation despite his life would be in danger in Turkey.

The lawyers want to know the legal grounds on which the Albanian authorities decided to deport Çelik, saying this is a flagrant violation of the human rights. They claim the Turkish teacher was denied the right of asylum without any argument and he was also denied the appellation of the court’s ruling.

Harun Çelik was deported on January 1, 2020 in order to avoid the debates due to the sensitivity of such deportations in Turkey where the detainees are denied the fundamental rights such as a proper trial.

Turkish media reported Çelik’s deportation was a work of MIT, the Turkish state intelligence agency, but the Albanian authorities have not given any explanation so far, one week after the deportation.

With Çelik’s deportation, Albania joins countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Gabon, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, where teachers considered as Fethullah Gülen’s supporters have been abducted.
