The Democratic Party (PD) has accused Tirana’s Mayor Erion Veliaj of increasing the expenses for luxury and salaries. Democrat spokeswoman Ina Zhupa said the Municipality of Tirana has budgeted €130 million for luxury expenses and wages for a blown-up administration of seven thousand employees.

“2020 will not be a year of good services that improve the quality of life for Tirana’s citizens. Beyond the propaganda that he has in abundance, Erion Veliaj will spend most of the raised taxes of Tirana’s citizens in wages and luxury”, Zhupa writes. “The budged that was approved the other day provides €130 million for wages and luxury whereas the citizens will gain nothing”.

“Drinkable water will continue to lack or will come polluted to our taps, schools and kindergartens will continue to be overcrowded, the roads will continue to have holes, because Erion Veliaj does not prioritize the city’s development but its concretization”.

“Tirana’s budget 2020 is in the same spirit as the budget of Edi Rama’s government. It has nothing to do with the citizens’ interests, and it is an open door to the corruptive affairs and the unlawful enrichment of a fistful of the municipality and government clients”.
