Albanian Premier Edi Rama started his address to the parliament today attacking the opponents of the anti-defamation package as “mob that does not read”.

Rama said Germany has the toughest legislation in this respect and had the German legislation existed in Albania, the journalists would be in debts up to their necks.

“We are facing a mob that does not read and doesn’t bother to read, they even say it openly that every law threatens their freedom”, Rama said.

“According to an OSCE Report, in three forth of the member countries, insult and defamation are penal offences. Currently there are several approaches to insults and defamation. First, twenty countries have prison punishment for insults and defamation. Second, five countries do not provision the insults and defamation as penal offences, but regulate it with consequences in the civil legislation”.

“On November 26 (the day of the earthquake) a person, a father, lost his life because someone published an article saying the hospital of Durrës was collapsing. The publication of that article turned the hospital into a chaos hub. They also published the news that the government was hiding 100 dead persons in the hospital morgue”.
