Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha called for maximal punishment for the irresponsible persons that “play with the citizens’ lives”. Basha made his declaration during a visit in Katund i Ri, one of the villages affected by the earthquake of November 26. Some of the residents told the Democrat leader the act-expertise of one of the damaged houses that was verified three times with three different conclusions.

In order to avoid the reception of the rent bonus, the third verification had ruled the house was inhabitable despite the images that show it can barely stand leaned only on a vertical iron bar.

The owner expressed his concern for the safety because the conclusion has nothing in common with the actual state of his house.

This is a repeated case since other houses that were deemed as uninhabitable after November 26 now are considered as inhabitable only to avoid giving the families rent money by the government.

Basha said this is “criminal” and like “killing the dwellers”. He said engineers must verify the state of the houses and sign the conclusion.

“No engineer can sign a document this house is inhabitable. Engineers that would sign it will go to prison”, Basha said. “The persons who tell you to enter the houses verbally, without a signed statement, also must go to prison”.
