Albania has joined Kosovo in boycotting the Nobel Prize Award ceremonies in Stockholm where Austrian author Peter Handke will receive the literature prize. Acting foreign minister Gent Cakaj confirmed the boycott through a post on Twitter.
“Consistent with our initial reaction, we have also instructed the Ambassador of Albania to Sweden to boycott the NobelPrize ceremony for Handke. Justification of war atrocities during the Yugoslavia break-up must not be rewarded”, Cakaj tweeted.
Handke’s win caused anger and was objected by Kosovo and Albania due to the known friendship with and support for the former Yugoslavian President Slobodan Milosevic during the Yugoslav Wars in the ‘90s.
