Albanian General Prosecutor Olsian Çela started his new job today visiting the earthquake area in Durrës where he revealed the investigations are facing problem due to the current legislation.

Asked about eventual arrests following the deaths of 51 persons and hundreds injured from the collapsed buildings, Çela said it will for the prosecutors to decide, adding they would be independent in their investigations.

“These are decisions to be taken by the prosecutors, they will be independent in their decisions. There are persons that have broken the law, there are many casualties, many injured people. The responsibility will go where is due, be it on the constructor, or officials (that give permits). If the investigators find evidence there are elements of penal responsibility, we will not hesitate”, Çela told Çela also rejected news that evidence has been destroyed at the site or in the Municipality of Durrës, where the investigators could not find documentation related to the construction permits of the destroyed buildings.
