Former President Bujar Nishani has responded to former Socialist minister Ethem Ruka after the later expressed indignation at Nishani’s calling Premier Edi Rama “an idiot”.

On Thursday, Nishani commented Rama’s threats to shut down the media in the conditions of the extraordinary situation in the country. “Someone should tell the idiot Prime Minister that threatens to shut the media because he has declared the extraordinary situation that the government cannot declare an extraordinary situation”. Nishani explained that the government had only declared the state of emergency, whereas the extraordinary situation can be declared only by the parliament and decreed by the President of the Republic.

“Ethem Ruka, who holds the title Professor, was revolted at and opposed me because I called an extremely irresponsible person an idiot. The professor that assumes the education of our youth is not impressed and finds it normal that the Prime Minister of a country shows himself in public and declares “I have declared the extraordinary situation and with that I can shut down the media and TV channels. The professor finds it normal that the Prime Minister, instead of taking out of ruins the bodies of the citizens, entitles to himself the competences of a sultan that knows neither the laws nor the Constitution of the country”, Nishani wrote.
